Tuesday night in Toronto, the Yankee Universe came to a standstill. The great Mariano Rivera threw a wild pitch, which led to pigs flying, hell freezing over, and the Knicks’ Jared Jefferies to actually hit a go-ahead clutch shot.
It also led to a blown save. Mariano doesn’t blow saves! He must be done.
This is what people will be talking about in two weeks after he blows a couple more saves; it happens every year, Mo goes through his own version of a slump where he will blow a couple saves within a week or so of each other and then Vinny Tortallini, Joey Bagodonuts, and the rest of Yankee fans who give us a bad name start calling WFAN saying that it’s time to find a new closer.
I for one will not be a part of that talk. Mo is the man until he says he is no longer the man for the job. My only hope is if somebody can tell Joe Girardi that Mariano doesn’t have to pitch everyday.
