What price are you willing to pay to see history?

The secondary market prices for Yankee tickets has skyrocketed for the next few games. As of Thursday morning, StubHub’s prices for the Tampa Series are way above face value.

The cheapest tickets for Thursday’s game are 20 dollars, which isn’t bad, but the chances of seeing Jeter get three hits in one game isn’t great. Friday and Saturday however, now that’s a different story. Friday’s cheap seats are going for 84 bucks, and there are left field obstructed-view seats available for 86 dollars a pop. So you get to pay 7 times the face value amount and see half of the game.

Saturday continues the trend, with the cheapest tickets sitting at 55 dollars. If you can’t get there by the subway, add in another 35 dollars to park, or a train fee, and you will really have to ask yourself, “What price am I wiling to pay to see 3,000?”

If Jeter gets two hits tonight, the prices will skyrocket for Friday. If he is sitting at 2,999 entering Saturday or Sunday expect those tickets to skyrocket as well.

I live about an hour and twenty-minute ride from Yankee Stadium, so usually I wait until I am just about to leave for a game to order tickets; they are much cheaper then. That philosophy isn’t going to work this weekend. If you want to see 3,000 you are going to have to guess the game right, or you will be paying a lot of money to see hits 3,003 and 3,004.

Steinbrenner had a knack for using the media to his advantage, all in the name of getting more publicity for himself, and the Yankees.

So my night looks pretty empty, and yours may be too, so here are a few things you can do:

#1- Talk with your family

-Try to have a conversation that doesn’t involve the Yankees. It could be about the weather, politics, or the neighbor’s ugly dog. Here’s how a typical conversation in my house goes:

Me- “Dad what’s the score?”

Dad- “2-0″

Me- “Yankees?”

Dad- “No. Garcia sucks!!”

Me- “But it’s the 5th inning, he’s keeping them in the game.”

Dad- “They’re losing–He sucks!”

#2- Read a Book

Lots of losing in this one. Title was originally supposed to be "100 years of Sucking", but an old French Prostitute already had that one.

The are these things with covers and paper with words inside of them. Sometimes you can actually learn something. Just don’t read too much at once, your head may hurt since you haven’t done it in a while

#3- Workout!

Chances are you haven’t been watching the Yankees while pumping iron or running on a treadmill, so maybe it’s time to do something that involves you getting off the couch.

Here’s a typical Hank Steinbrenner workout:

100 12-ounce curls

3 reps of pointing at himself in the mirror and saying “Hal was NOT Dad’s Favorite”

1 rep of Cheeseburger eating

Watch one jazz-ercise video (Not to do anything, just to check out the ladies)

2 laps around the Yankees clubhouse. (The usual amount of laps needed to berate every single player after a loss)

Seriously, without the Yankees, the night will just suck anyway. Are you really going to talk to your family, workout, or read a book? Didn’t think so.

Could Grady Sizemore be wearing pinstripes after the trade deadline?

Nick Swisher has come back down to earth this year after a stellar year last year. He’s come back down to earth and now it seems like he found a way to keep falling. His great hitting last year covered up his poor defense, which now become a liability with his bat not being able to make up for the lack of D. He is in the final year of his contract, and it doesn’t look like the Yankees will want to re-sign him if he continues his mediocre play.

This has lead to Swisher’s name being mentioned on the trade rumor mill, and rightfully so. He’s always been a solid player, but never a GREAT player, and this year proves that last year was most likely a fluke. The name Carlos Beltran has come up more than a few times, but I have another one that may surprise you:

Grady Sizemore

Sizemore, once as high of a caliber player you could in the outfield, dealt with knee problems the past two seasons, causing him to miss a good chunk of each season. The Indians are playing great baseball again, and that is due in great part to their young talent. Sizemore is a veteran on the young team even though he is only 28. A young star in the making is Indians outfielder Micheal Brantley, who brings a solid bad and defense to the table. He looks to be the lead-off hitter and centerfielder of the future.

Sizemore is currently (as of Tuesday, June 21) hitting .235 with 7 dingers. Sure those numbers aren’t spectacular, but he is a left-handed hitter. Put him in Yankee Stadium and I think the change of scenery would do him good. Putting him in rightfield would save some wear-and-tear that he would get playing centerfield, and he would be a huge upgrade defensively for Swisher.

Sizemore has a team option for 2012, which I don’t think the Indians will want to keep. Swisher would be a good piece for the tribe, giving them a veteran presence in a young lineup for the remainder of the year.

I know Swisher is a fan favorite, and personally I love his attitude and love for the game. Sometimes though, that just isn’t enough. This Yankees team is playing well, but they can still upgrade.

Gardner is driving me crazy. Some days he's great, others awful. He really is a curious case

Watching the ESPN telecast last night, Bobby V enlightened me on the subject of Brett Gardner. Yes, learning something from an ESPN broadcast is shocking, but with Joe Morgan no longer in the both It’s easier to pay attention. Also, Is there a bigger bunch of losers than the Cubs’ fan-base? Seems like all of them are fat, have glasses, and most likely a fanny-pack as well.

Now to what I wanted to mention.

Valentine basically said that Gardner’s base-stealing problems have been because of his early season slump; when he would finally reach base, he would try to do too much. And although I don’t think Valentine saw Gardner’s horrendous baserunning the past couple of weeks, that is a logical explanation to why Gardner has slumped on the bases. I think Gardner will get back in a rhythm now that he is getting on base every time he gets up (that’s approximate).

He’s still no Carl Crawford though.

Remember in the off-season how people were saying that Crawford wouldn’t be that much of an upgrade over Brett Gardner? WRONG. Brett Gardner has all the talent in the world, but you know what folks? He’s dumb. Crawford scores on passed balls. Crawford has the guts to try to steal bases. Crawford knows how to take a walking lead. Crawford is a baseball player, a gamer. Gardner just seems to be showing up for work.

He is no Carl Crawford

And enough already with the “hit Ortiz” crap. A-Rod stares into the dugout everytime he hits a homerun, which might I add his pace has slowed down since he’s been off the juice. Nobody says anything about A-Rod staring in the dugout, so leave Ortiz alone. What, is Freddy Garcia going to retaliate with his 80mph fastball? Give me a break. CC hitting him really worked out well, didn’t it? Sure made the loss feel SO much better.

Sure Russell Martin is hurt, and Cervelli had to start. Cervelli is a AAA catcher; his defense has only gotten worse every year he has played. If we are going to have a bad defensive catcher, we might as well call up Montero.

In case you haven’t noticed, Russell Martin is no longer an all-star catcher. he is breaking down quickly and as of Friday is only hitting .238. A catcher coming off a major hip injury should not be playing in as many games as he has, but it must not say that in Joe Girardi’s binder.

Changes need to happen, young guys need to get called up. This team needs some life. It’s a miracle that they Yanks are even within a breath of first place considering the bad baseball they have been playing.

It’s ok though, same thing happened in 2009. Yankees lost 8 straight to Boston and were two games back. Will this team turn it around?
